Special Announcement:Mercer Introduces Courses for All
Dear Friends of the Mercer School,
Mercer School is pleased to offer courses in a variety of theological disciplines to members of the Diocese of Long Island and beyond during this academic year.
The following Mercer School of Theology eight (8) courses will all be taught as 6-week modules. The first and final sessions of each course will be taught in-classroom/in-person at Mercer School of Theology in Garden City. The other four sessions of the course will take place online using G Suite for Education, provided by Google. The scheduling of those four sessions will be by common consent of instructor and enrolled students. The exceptions are “The Letters of Paul” and the “Book of Revelation”; they will be offered exclusively online, with no in-classroom/in-person meetings.
Those who enroll for modules will receive by email a description of how to use G Suite for Educationin accessing the four online course sessions.
Registration for modules will be easily accessed by visiting the Mercer School website (www.mercerschool.org), clicking on the course name in the Mercer Online Calendar and accessing the registration information within.
Mercer School is grateful to the skilled instructors teaching modules during the 2016-2017 academic year. It is our hope that the possibility of engaging with theological learning without frequent trips to Mercer’s geographical location will encourage many to become part of Mercer’s learning community.
In order to celebrate the Mercer School’s entry into hybrid courses, there is no registration fee for students who register for either or both of the first two courses of the year: Patristic Doctrine of the Trinity and Holy Dying. Thereafter, the remaining six courses in the series will have a $50.00 registration fee per student per course. A minimum of five (5) registrants is needed for a course to proceed.
We encourage you to join us in this new educational offering.
Blessings and Peace,
Course: Holy Dying
Beginning date December 10- Concluding date February 11, 2017
(All other dates to be determined by teachers and students)
Instructor: The Rev. Steven Paulikas
Holy Dying is an introduction to the Anglican theology of death and resurrection and the principles of end-of-life pastoral care. Through readings of Holy Scripture, Episcopal liturgy, and other key texts, students will develop their theological understanding of death as a foundation for strategies in pastoral care at this most sensitive - and often taboo - stage of the life cycle.
