Finger Lakes Conference Announces
its Final Conference
June 22 – 27, 2008

Theme: Endings and Beginnings: All the Ways to Say Good-bye

Barbara Cawthorne CraftonBarbara Cawthorne Crafton, General Lecturer, will lead participants through the process of celebration, reunion, and closure at the final presentation and gathering of the wonderful community that, for the past 70 years, has been known as Finger Lakes Conference.

This retreat is a call to be of good cheer about the ending of things: a job, a marriage, a life. The Finger Lakes Conference -- the Finger Lakes themselves. Our nation will not go on forever. Nothing will.

But all endings plant beginnings. What seed will each of our endings sow? And what will bloom?

Barbara is a priest, author, spiritual director, and the founder of The Geranium Farm.

Conferees choose one of these five courses:

  • A New Testament Toolbox - The Rev. Heather Benson Rector, Trinity Church, Canastota NY
  • The Mysteries of the Book of Revelation Clarified! - The Rev. Dr. Richard A. Henshaw, Professor Emeritus, Bexley Hall Seminary
  • Good “ ‘Byes”: Some Favorite Fare-Thee-Wells - Richard Quaintance, Emeritus Professor of English Literature, Rutgers University
  • Everyday Spirituality - Dr. Anne Winchell Silver, Adjunct Professor, General Theological Seminary. Spiritual director and author of books on spiritual direction and grieving
  • Recycling Paper and Stuff -A Hands On Crafting Workshop - Pat Welti, Basket Maker and Weaving Teacher

Chaplain - The Rev. Barbara M. Humphrey, St. John's Episcopal Church, Canandaigua, New York
Music Director - Eric Osborne, Director of Music Ministries, Trinity Anglican Church, Cambridge, Ontario
Dean - Betty Donahue

A celebration of this 70-year-old ministry is being planned. Much thought and energy are being given to honoring its traditions while giving attendees a reason to be hopeful. Hopeful that new ministries may emerge through the presentations that will take place; and that we will all depart recognizing that it is time -- to be joyous for the past, to look forward to the future, to continue spreading the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ, through our words and actions in this rapidly changing world in which we live today.

The Finger Lakes Conference is held in Geneva, New York on the Campus of William Smith and Hobart Colleges. The Conference provides a safe and rich environment where persons who are deeply committed to a spiritual path and those who are searching for an indefinable “something” in their lives may learn and explore together. The General Lecture, small group discussions, courses, daily worship and impromptu offerings by conference members make each day exciting. But sometimes rest and quiet are what is needed and attendance at any offering is optional.

We hope that you will find Finger Lakes Conference just what you need for relaxation and renewal as you begin your summer.
