Episcopal Church Women National Board Meeting
Margaret Cash,the Province II Representative

Greetings from the National Episcopal Church Women Board. Please share the comments of this letter with all who are interested in the mission and ministry of the Episcopal Church Women.

The National Board met at the Franciscan Retreat and Conference Center at Mount Saint Francis in Colorado Springs, Colorado from July 13-19, 2011. The Center was a place that provided a quiet, reflective and beautiful environment that provided a sense of serenity and calmness that allowed us to focus on the work we are called to perform. We were warmly welcomed each day by the staff and many deer that peacefully roamed the grounds of the center.

We were delighted to meet and welcome the Rev. Deborah Jennings, Vicar, St. Basil Episcopal Church in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, who will serve as the Chaplain for the 47th Triennial Meeting. Rev. Jennings was the Celebrant for the Opening Eucharist and the Officiant for the Closing Worship Service. The Worship Committee along with Rev. Jennings are working hard to ensure a meaningful and inspiring devotional experience for everyone.

We were pleased to welcome fourteen of our sisters from Province 6 on Saturday, July 16th. Among those in attendance was Harriet Neer, one of our beloved past Presidents. Following a delicious lunch, a lively and provocative conversation was held regarding ECW accomplishments, concerns and challenges. On Sunday, we worshipped at St. Michael's The Archangel Parish, along with the women from Province 6, who were attending their Province Meeting which occurred that weekend.

The Rev. Gregory Straub, Secretary of General Convention and Secretary of Executive Council, joined us for several days and shared insights and highlights of the upcoming General Convention.

The National Episcopal Church Women will once again partner with the Episcopal Woman's Caucus and the Anglican Women's Empowerment in the 16 Days Activism program which will begin November 25th-December 10th, 2011. Additional information will be forthcoming.

The Social Justice Initiatives for this Triennial are aimed at improving the quality of life for women and children. We urgently need your prayers and financial support for all or any of the following projects:

"Nets for Life" (Unified Gift) This program is a major push for Episcopal Relief and Development and six major corporations to eliminate Malaria in Africa. The goal for NECW during this triennium is to provide 1000 Nets, at a cost of $12.00 per Net.

Craine House (Community Gift) Craine House is in the city of Indianapolis which is the host site for the General Convention and the Triennial Meeting. The Community Gift is an outreach project for Episcopal Church Women and others to support and contribute to a deserving local community organization. Further information about this organization and its mission is available on their website, http://crainehouse.org/. Donations of items or monies as well as your prayers are appreciated. A Wish List of needs from the agency will be made available in the fall Communique. Information may also be found on the agency's website which is noted above.

Lillian Vallely School. This is the only boarding school for Native American children. It is in the Diocese of Idaho.

El Buen Centro Pasteur. We are assisting the Sisters of Transfiguration in the Dominican Republic as they care and educate girls in need within their communities.

Women to Women Program Grants for women are made available for education, improving job skills or financing a business (i.e. sewing machine, seeds and tools for farming, chickens for eggs and meat, etc.

A grant of $2500 was approved for the Five Talents Organization in the Sudan to help provide grants for education and job training for women and their families. We continue to be concerned and offer prayers for those in the Sudan as they face change, turmoil and loss from the North.

The focus of the upcoming edition of Communique will feature our clergy. The original focus, Health Ministries, will be featured in the winter edition along with a full description of the first 5K Walk which will be held during the Triennial Meeting in July, 2012. If you submitted articles to the communication officers regarding your health ministries, they will appear in the winter edition. There is still time to submit health ministries information. Please send it and other information regarding your diocesan program to me, including dates, for the Calendar at macash401@aol.com no later than October10, 2011.

Hopefully, you have received information regarding the Distinguished Woman Award Program. Information regarding the award was mailed to Diocesan Presidents and Contact persons in March, 2011. It is also available in the summer edition of the Communique, the July/August Communique and on the NECW website. We look forward to receiving your information no later than December 31, 2011.

Green Envelopes with Certification information will be sent to ECW Delegates in March 2012.

Respectfully,

Margaret A. Cash, Province II Representative
