Migration with Dignity Sunday is an opportunity to learn and teach about the Migration with Dignity Principles and to include prayers for Migration with Dignity in worship. The Caucus has developed resources to help congregations plan liturgies, discussions, workshops, teach-ins, etc. for MWD Sunday.

Migration with Dignity is a paradigm-changing framework for discussing immigrant rights. The Migration with Dignity principles have deep resonance with scripture and Christian theology. Province V and several of our individual dioceses passed MWD resolutions in 2023-24 and The Episcopal Church adopted Migration with Dignity as a framework to guide all of its migration ministries at the 81st General Convention in 2024.

The six Migration with Dignity principles are:

A universal right of movement, including freedom to leave and return to one’s country of origin, freedom of movement within one’s country of origin or country of settlement.

The right to be secure: from sexual violence including rape and sexual exploitation, human trafficking, slavery, forced labor and arbitrary and abusive detention.

The right of equality, to include: 1) equal treatment with no discrimination under the law based on color, gender, sexual orientation, language, religion, political affiliation, national origin; and 2) equal opportunity for upward mobility.

Rights to a basic quality of life, including employment, housing, and food rights.

The right to access services such as health care, education and legal representation.

Civil and political rights guaranteeing the right to identity, to the use of one’s language, and to freedom of speech and religion.

According to Silvia Huth, co-coordinator of the Province V Migration Ministry Network, “Clearly, Migration with Dignity aligns with the commitments our church has made to immigrant justice, and celebrating MWD Sunday can be an important way to continue educating our congregations about these commitments.”

UTO in Province II Presentation

https://www.province2.org/news-from-the-province/uto-in-province-ii-presentation

https://www.province2.org/news-from-the-province/uto-in-province-ii-presentation#comments

Uncategorized

Your browser does not support viewing this document. On behalf of your siblings in our dioceses, from across New York and New Jersey, Haiti, Cuba, the Virgin Islands, and the convocation in Europe, we send you our love and prayers.

On Sunday, October 27, at a major partisan event in New York City, offensive and false statements were made, about your beautiful island and the good people of Puerto Rico. While these statements were made under the pretense of humor, this is no laughing matter. The dehumanization expressed reflects the worst of our national story and is shameful to us as followers of Jesus Christ. We renounce the statements made at Madison Square Garden, and we renew our dedication to repent of the evils of racism and bigotry. We take seriously our commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and our baptismal vows to honor the dignity of all persons.

We are writing to offer our love and support and to express our gratitude for your diocese, and the faithful people of Puerto Rico. We celebrate with you the opening of your new hospital, the expansion of your seminary, and your continued faithfulness in your ministry. We are inspired by the strength of your community and your support of one another in both good and challenging times.

May God continue to bless you, and together, may we share a message of love, dignity, and hope that will help to heal our hurting nation and world.

Your siblings in Christ:
The Rt.
